History of Sun City

The former homeland of Bophuthatswana is home to the fabulous Sun City resort and hotels. Bophuthatswana was classified as an independent state by South Africa 's apartheid regime and therefore it could provide entertainment such as gambling and topless revue shows. This type of entertainment was banned under the apartheid regime and Sun City became the "immoral playground". Nowadays, Sun City has lost the odour of sin and the name stands for luxurious hotels, beautifully laid-out water gardens, excellent golf courses, unusual gambling halls, exclusive casinos and first-class entertainment shows.

Did you know?

Sol Kerzner was born in 1935 in Johannesburg and is the founder of Sun City. He was the youngest of four and the only boy born to poor Russian immigrants. His family went into the business of hotels and Kerzner went on to create and establish the most successful hotels and accommodation within South Africa. Sun City Hotels Palace of the Lost City, is the first full demonstration of the Kerzner style.
